Short history: The meaning of the name of Novi Sad in the Serbian language is “a new garden”, which symbolically stands for the 80,000 youngsters and additional 80.000 students who are growing in this “YOUNG CITY“. For more than a century, Novi Sad has been a pioneer and a symbol of youth activism, making significant social changes in the history and systematic youth care.
“I love that welcoming sound I hear every time I come back to Novi Sad. Novi Sad celebrates its visitors!
The overall goal of “OPENS19” is: creating more opportunities for youth by youth, empowering them to become pro-active initiators of positive change, introducing innovative ideas not only in the NS, but also at national and international level.
NOVI SAD IS….Just the right size. Not too big not too small. It is peaceful and dynamic, at the same time.
WHY “OPENING DOORS”?
While the young face many daily life challenges, the initiatives of OPENS19 aim at creating spaces for creativity, ideas development and discussions with policy makers in order to create more OPPORTUNITIES for young people. The motto “Opening Doors” symbolizes the creation of new opportunities for youth in the city of NS but also in developing bridges with other regions and countries.
The program has three pillars:
- (1)“Novi Sad opening its doors”
- (2)“Youth programs and infrastructure opening doors”
- (3) “Novi SAD City Hall Opening its DOORS”:
“Novi Sad should be given a chance to prove itself to Europe, because we truly deserve it. Young people did not have easy path due to the wars and everything, still we managed to fight for our rights”.
Main motivation: The overall goal of OPENS19 is to create opportunities for young people, together with young people and the motivation to work on creation of opportunities for young people for the project came from young people and youth organisations from Novi Sad.
